Roofing in Chertsey

Old Town Roofs and Family Homes in Chertsey

Chertsey is one of the oldest towns in Surrey, built around an abbey that is long gone and a stone bridge over the Thames that is still there. The centre shows its age in the best way: Georgian houses along Windsor Street, the church and the museum, and street after street of Victorian terraces and villas off Guildford Street and around the station. Most of those roofs are natural slate or plain clay tile, with brick chimneys, lead valleys and bay roofs that are all reaching the age where they need attention.

Beyond the centre the town spreads into inter-war semis, post-war estates and 1960s and 1970s houses towards Addlestone, Ottershaw and the M25, with a good number of bungalows near the river and St Ann's Hill. Concrete interlocking tiles, flat-roofed extensions and garages, and the odd conservatory roof make up most of the work there.

We reach Chertsey from Castle Hill in Windsor in about twenty minutes, down through Egham and Thorpe, so it sits comfortably inside our Surrey patch. The photographs on this page are from a natural slate roof we completed in Twickenham, the same specification we would put on a Victorian house here, and there are clay tile, Redland and flat roof case studies on our Our Work page. Every image is our own job.

Victorian terraces have a particular set of problems: slate nails that have rusted through, so slates slide every winter; lead valleys and party-wall flashings that have cracked; and chimney stacks that were built for coal fires and have been soaking up rain ever since. We deal with all three, and we will tell you plainly whether your roof needs a repair, a strip and re-slate, or just a decent chimney job.

"Seal Pro Roofing did an outstanding job on our roof. The staff were courteous and clearly skilled. They worked efficiently and completed the job to a high standard. Everything was left clean and tidy. Excellent service overall."

FAQs

Common Questions from Chertsey Homeowners

Yes. Addlestone, Ottershaw, Lyne, Thorpe and Laleham are all part of the same patch, twenty to twenty-five minutes from our Windsor base, and we work across all of them.
It is common, but it is a warning sign. Slates slide when the iron nails holding them have rusted through, and once that starts across a slope it will not stop. A few slates can be refixed with tail hooks; a roof that sheds them every year is usually ready for a strip and re-slate, reusing your sound slates where possible. We will tell you which you have.
Often yes. Most chimney repointing, flaunching and capping work can be done from a chimney scaffold or tower on the roof rather than a full scaffold, which keeps the cost down. Rebuilding a stack from below the roofline needs more access, and we will say so in the quote.
About twenty minutes from our base at Castle Hill in Windsor, via Egham and Thorpe. We run a 24-hour emergency callout, and for a quote visit we can usually be with you within a day or two.
