What goes wrong

Gutters Fail at the Joints, the Brackets and the Fall

Most gutter problems on homes in Windsor and Berkshire come down to three things, and each one sends water down your walls instead of into the drain:

  • Leaking joints: the rubber seals in each joint perish with age and sunlight, and water drips through at every union and corner
  • Broken or loose brackets: a bracket snaps or its fixing rots out of the fascia, and the run sags
  • Lost fall: a gutter needs a slight slope to the outlet. When a run sags or was fitted level, water sits in the middle and overflows

Old cast iron and early plastic gutters add two more: cracking and brittleness. Cast iron rusts through at the joints and the back of the gutter. Old plastic goes brittle in the sun and cracks when it is knocked or frozen.

You see it as drips from the joints in rain, streaks down the brickwork, a run that visibly dips, or a puddle at the foot of the wall where the water should be going down a pipe.

How we fix it

Repairing or Replacing Your Guttering

Whether it is one joint or a whole new run, the job is to get every drop from the roof into the drain.

01

Inspect the Run

We check joints, brackets, falls, outlets and downpipes along the whole run, and photograph what we find.

02

Fix the Fall

Sagging sections lifted and refixed on new brackets, set to the correct fall so water runs to the outlet.

03

Seal or Replace

Failed joints resealed or replaced. Where the gutter itself is brittle or cracked, new uPVC goes in.

04

Downpipes to the Ground

Downpipes refixed, repaired or replaced and checked through to the gully, so the water leaves the building.

New guttering

New uPVC Guttering, Sized for Your Roof

When a gutter is past repair, we replace it in uPVC. It does not rust, does not need painting and comes in black, brown, white or anthracite to match your house.

Size matters more than most people think. A bigger roof sheds more water, and an undersized gutter overflows in a heavy downpour however clean it is. We size the new gutter to the roof area it serves, choosing a deeper profile where a large slope drains into one run, and add an outlet or a downpipe where one is not enough.

New gutters go on new brackets, spaced and fixed securely to a sound fascia, with the fall set so water reaches the outlet. If the fascia board behind is rotten, there is no point fixing new gutters to it, and we will quote a new uPVC fascia at the same time. When a roof is being replaced, renewing the gutters in the same visit makes sense: the access is already up and the whole system works together from day one.

What Gutter Repair and Replacement Costs

Our roof repair cost guide puts a fascia or gutter repair at £100 to £350 for 2026. That covers resealing failed joints, replacing broken brackets and refixing a sagging run to the right fall.

A repair is the right call when the gutter itself is sound and only a joint, a bracket or one section has failed. Replacement makes more sense when joints are leaking all along the run, the gutter is brittle or cracking, it is cast iron that has rusted through, or it is too small for the roof. New guttering is priced on the length of the runs, the number of downpipes and the access, in a fixed written quote.

If the gutters are simply full of moss and leaves, they need clearing, not replacing. See our gutter cleaning page. We tell you honestly which one you need, with photos.

Real work

Proof: New Roof and New Guttering in New Malden

Rather than patch tired rainwater goods under a brand new roof, this New Malden homeowner had the guttering renewed at the same time, so the house is weathertight from ridge to downpipe. Our own team, one set of access, every photo from the job.

FAQs

Gutter Repair Questions, Answered

Each joint has a rubber seal that perishes with age and sunlight. Once it goes, water drips through at every union and corner. Joints are resealed or replaced as a repair. When every joint along a run has failed, a new run is better value.
Either the run has lost its fall and water sits in the middle, the outlet or downpipe is blocked lower down, or the gutter is too small for the roof area. We find which one and fix that.
Yes. uPVC does not rust or need painting and comes in black, brown, white or anthracite. On some period homes and listed buildings cast iron is the right look, and we tell you if yours is one.
If the fascia behind the gutter is rotten, new gutters will not hold on it, so we quote a new uPVC fascia at the same time. Doing both in one visit saves paying for access twice.
Our 2026 roof repair cost guide puts a fascia or gutter repair at £100 to £350. New guttering is priced on the length of the runs, the downpipes and the access. Your fixed price follows the free inspection.
